2018 property tax when partially renting and owning

Hi, For 2018 deductions: I lived in an apartment for about 6 months and I purchased home - turbo tax deluxe is not allowing me to enter both - for federal deductions on property tax (I haven't maxed out - still <10K).......can you help.............thanks.

Unfortunately, property taxes paid when you rented are not eligible for the federal deduction for property tax. 

The federal deduction for property tax is only available to homeowners. 

There are some states and the District of Columbia that have property tax deductions for renters, but those are reported during your state interview
