Without having the ability to look at your return and tax information on this public online forum, I can only provide possible solutions to the issues with your tax return.

If the tax due on your part-year resident return seems incorrect, I would recommend going through both of your part-year resident state tax returns.

  1. Make sure both state returns are marked as part-year resident returns.
  2. TurboTax will ask either questions about the dates of residence, the amount of money earned in each state, or both in some cases. Make sure all questions about residency or part-year income are answered correctly.
  3. If the tax is still high, I would review the state income tax withholding to make sure there was tax withheld for both states for the year. In some cases, the employer doesn't start withholding for the new state until later on. This can cause an unexpected balance due in one state.
