It is automatic, based on the date of birth you enter in MY INFO.

The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

The program will put the total on line 13b of your tax return based on your age.
[Edited for typo on line # 1/26/2026| 8:45 am PST]
My age is set correctly. Line 13b is empty. Can not access Schedule 1-A. TurboTax is saying the $6K deduction is automatically applied. Evidently not, of perhaps not yet as of 1/26/26.
If you are filing married filing separately, you do not get the $6000 deduction.
The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)

So far, TurboTax is not populating line 13b and can not be edited as of 1/26/26
@user17694432161 Again-----what is your filing status? And were you 65 or older at the end of 2025? The software uses the date of birth you entered in MY INFO and your filing status. If you are eligible for the senior deduction it is added automatically to line 13b.
Single... using the Premier desktop version. Age 68. Other parts of Turbotax desktop are also not functioning... such as Rental property depreciation... says TT not yet ready..
Have you updated your software?
every time i log in... i check for updates even if TT does not automatically get updates.
