If you physically worked in Maryland, your earnings from that work are taxable by Maryland, and you must file a non-resident Maryland tax return in addition to your regular NY resident tax return. Like other states, MD taxes non-residents on income earned from physically working within its borders. The requirement does not apply to residents of reciprocal states, but MD and NY are not reciprocal states. If you never physically worked in MD, there is no requirement to file an MD tax return unless you had some other type of MD-source income, such as rental income from a property located in MD.
