Several states do not have a state income tax. So these states will not show up in certain drop down lists. Leave boxes 15, 16, and 17 blank when you enter a W-2 for these states.

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming

For Box 15, for the Employer State ID Number, if no number is listed, enter the Federal ID number listed above in Box b. That should eliminate the issue.

Or, if state taxes were withheld for one or more states.....look at the extra W-2 copies the Employers send you...sometimes the exact state amounts and ID numbers are on the extra copies.
