What are the first three characters of a NYS Drivers License Document Number that I seem to be missing?

I'm almost ready to e-file but the system is telling me my license's first three characters must be entered. What gives?

To file your return, you will need the first three letters of your document number located on your NYS drivers license. Depending on when your license was issued, as well as the type of license you have, the location of this

FIRST...make sure you are using the right number

...depending on the license type...check the following pictures provided by NY:

Some folks are saying it works if you enter ONLY the first three Alphabetic or Numeric characters....no more than that.
