We live in VA, but the last 2 mo of this yr, we received unemployment from DC bc that was the location of former employer. Do we need to file in DC as well as VA?

A DC nonresident return is only filed if there was withholding or estimates paid. So if you had DC withholding on your unemployment 1099-G then you should file to get the refund. Otherwise it will be counted on your federal return and subtracted on your Virginia return automatically with TurboTax.
