If you filed "exempt", on your W-4, then no federal income taxes would be withheld. If you entered zero, then some should have been withheld. However, it may depend on how much you earned in a pay period. You will want to talk to your employer, and also check your paystubs to confirm.
Also, to change it for 2017, you can file a new W-4 form with your employer.
