Doing taxes for my non-dependent daughter who lived and worked in California for almost six years and filed as a CA resident during that time. She permanently moved to New York on December 1, 2019. Should I file for her as nonresident in CA as she only lived there 11 months last year and file in NY as a resident for only 1 month? Appreciate any advice on this.?

Your daughter needs to file a part-year resident return for California if her CA gross income is more than $18,241 or CA adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than $14,593.
Your daughter needs to file a part-year resident return for New York if her NY AGI is more than $8,000.
Thanks very much!
When you are filing her return as a part year resident, prepare the CA return first, making sure to include the dates she lived there. After CA has been prepared you should file NY second, making sure the dates for NY do not overlap with the CA return.
