Did you live and work in California for all of 2024?

Please explain what is going on with you and IL.   Were you a student who attended college in CA?   Did you move from IL to CA in 2024?

It depends- If Illinois is still your domicile, you will have to file an Illinois tax return.  If you intend to make California your domicile, you should takes the necessary steps to estsblish your new domicile.

I am from IL but go to College in CA and decided to stay and work in CA over the summer. I only came back to IL for a few small trips.

@ParentMark If you are being claimed as a dependent by your parents in IL, they are allowed to say that you lived with them all year.  Living away at college is a "temporary absence."    So.....that means you file a NON-resident CA return for the income earned in CA, and a resident return for IL.   Prepare the NON-resident return first.
