If you're filing as a Single person and you have no children or dependents, Box 13 of your Maine tax return should have a "1" and Box 13a should have a "0".

You can't be your own dependent.
What turbo did though was zero me out on both according to the maine revenue services
Seems unlikely that it was a TurboTax error, because a software error like that would have resulted in hundreds of complaints.
Then it might be because that at some point, you indicated that you-yourself were someone's dependent? (either that being true..or somehow accidentally entered). A zero would be used in that case.
The 1040ME line 13 instructions for that situation, say:
"Except, enter “0” if you (or, if married filing jointly, both you and your spouse) may be claimed as a dependent on another person’s return. If you are married filing jointly and only one spouse may be claimed as a dependent on another person’s return, enter “1.”"
Has anyone been able to ammend their dependents (going from 9 to 1) thru turbo on state filings?
Please clarify. You had been claiming 9 dependents, but now only want to claim 1 on State tax return? Or are you asking about your W-4 withholding form?
As to your primary question, you never looked at your Maine return each year before filing it?
@SweetieJean ...or perhaps the user accidentally hit the "9" instead of the adjacent "0", and doesn't realize they can edit error keystrokes ....even after posting
