Filed my income tax in early March and had a South Carolina refund of $46 which I have received. Accessed my turbotax return yesterday and it said my South refund was 1,241. I would recommend comparing what you filed to what TurboTax is showing now so you can determine what exactly changed on your return. As this is a public forum, we do not have a way to tell you if your return needs to be amended or not.
If after reviewing the original return, you determine that your state return does need to be amended, follow the steps in How do I amend my state tax return? for guidance.
I did not change anything on my federal return or state return after I filed on 3/3/2026. Yet, when I called the return up in May,2026, the federal return was the same but the state return changed by a significant amount. I am assuming that Turbotax made a change in the method of calculating the South Carolina tax. How do I confirm that Turbotax changed the method and what did they change? If a change was made to South Carolina tax calculation, why were users who filed a South Carolina tax return not notified by an email? I found the change by accident.
Unfortunately, since this is a public forum, it's hard to see exactly what changed on your return. There were some items being addressed within South Carolina itself but the House Bill in question did not pass. Aside from looking at your return, you still have the option in TurboTax Experts of having an expert review your amended return if you feel the original return was filed incorrectly. They can help see the difference in your amended return and provide further insight as it directly relates to your return.
