Should I File my North Carolina Tax return as a resident or none resident? I live their as a fulltime student for 6 months

I was a full time student at Elon University NCwith a part time Job. I lived in the state for 6 months

I never changed my resident to NC because I was going to move back to maryland

after the semester.

Should I file my NC return as a resident or non resident

If an undergraduate, under age 24 by the end of 2017, and your MD parents normally claim you as a dependent...then you file as a non-resident of NC.  Being in college in NC is considered temporary.

Probably would be considered in NC temporarily, and a non-resident of NC even if you don't meet those limitations, as long as you returned to MD...or some other state.
