Registered domestic partnership (RDP) filing California State return

My and my partner are trying to file the State return in California as "married/RDP jointly."

I used TurboTax (downloaded version) to prepare the federal returns for both of us, also created the "mock" version for federal. This is my understanding that the State return must be filed in paper (print and mail).

Here is the problem, when we mail the State return, instruction states we must attach the federal return along with it. Do we attach the individual federal returns, the "mock" federal return, or mail without federal return attached?

Thanks!

It's true that you have to mail it if the filing status is different.  Attach the separate, actually-filed federal tax returns to the California return.
