Notice of State Income Tax Due, even though I paid my state income tax

Is it for the same amount you paid?  Or did they change your return and you owe more?  How did you pay the tax due?

Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out.  Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the state for the state to take it out of your account.  But most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay.  And some banks use different routing numbers for deposits and payments.  Double check the number you entered with your bank.

It was only for the penalty and interest. It seems they probably received our payment, but didn’t get the request to extend. We submitted the request for postponement via turbo tax and were told it went through

Some states will not piggyback off the federal extension and require their own form. Review what was sent and if the extension was timely filed then respond to the notice with that proof of filing.
