Tax Year Prior to 2020: Joint Filling with different states of residence

My wife and I got married  in 2019, and she moved from Maryland to Virginia in June.  I have always been a resident of Virginia and we are filling jointly.  We know we have to file in both states, but aren't sure what to do for Virginia since we are living there now and I have always been a resident there.

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Joint Filling with different states of residence

Virginia would be the residence state and Maryland would be non residence state. I believe you will be filing as the taxpayer and your wife the spouse. As the taxpayer, Virginia where you have lived all these years should be the residence state.
