Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I only lived in California for 2019, but I'm being charged Maryland state tax of over $500.

In 2018, I worked in both California and Maryland, but had my home address in California. In 2019, I only worked in California and on my return it says I'm getting a refund from California. But when I go to review my return and file, it says I also have to pay an over $500 tax return for Maryland.

I don't know why this is, since I'm only filing a return for California and don't see a Maryland return in my state filing section. I am using Turbo Tax Online.

It looks like you filed returns for California and Maryland in 2018.

When you create your 2019 TurboTax return and import the 2018 information, it will carry over the fact that you had a 2018 state return.

So when you click on State on the left and go to the screen that says "Status of your state returns", you don't see Maryland?

Hmmmn, you might try to add Maryland on this screen then delete it to see if that shakes something loose.

That did the trick! I had to add Maryland into the State Return section, follow all the prompts to complete the MD state return, and then delete the return. I also had to adjust a section of my California return that listed my residence in an alternate state. Thank you!
