Hi, I am a self employed artist living in California and I sold merchandise I created at two conventions in New York City (same location).
I have already filed and paid sales tax with New York. Do I also need to file a state return for the amount I earned while in New York?
Thank you!

You do need to file a non-resident state tax return for New York if your adjusted gross income on your federal tax return is over their standard deduction amount ($8,000 for single filer and $16,050 for joint filers.) All of your income will be taxable in New York, but the tax will be reduced based on the percentage of income you earned outside of New York versus your total income.
