Do I need to file for VA and/or NC

Receive VA Retirement System (school bus driver) but live fully in NC. 1099-R is VA with no tax withheld. Is the income considered from VA or NC?

Pension income from another state is not taxable in that other state. So you do not need to file a VA return, just an NC return.

The general rule is that you file a return in the state where you live, and in the state(s) were you physically work. Notice that "work" is present tense. It doesn't matter where you used to work.
