2022 Georgia Tax Rebate for Joint Filers

In May 2022, the State of Georgia announced that due to the GA Department of Revenue's surplus certain State Tax filers would receive as much as a $500 rebate.

Caveats are:

  • Must have filed Georgia State Tax Returns in 2020 and 2021
  • Social Security and VA Benefits are not qualifiable as Tax Liability
  • Must have a Tax Liability for Tax Years 2020 and 2021

My wife and I filed Jointly, both receive Social Security and I receive VA Disability; however I also receive a Georgia Retirement pension of approximately $54K which incurs a Georgia State Tax Liability.

Is this Georgia Retirement pension not a Qualifyer for the 2020 and 2021 Georgia Tax Rebate of $500 for Joint Filer?

2022 Georgia Tax Rebate for Joint Filers

Again, thank you for your responses. Though your reply does not directly answer my query your steering me to the GA DOR website, https://dor.georgia.gov/hb-1302-tax-refund-faqs, helped me answer my question.

"

House Bill 1302 was signed into law by Governor Kemp on March 23, 2022, so some taxpayers may have already filed their 2021 returns. The Department of Revenue will attempt to include the H.B. 1302 refund along with other refund amounts due. For taxpayers whose 2021 returns have already been processed, the Department of Revenue will issue a separate refund beginning in May 2022.

Note: The Department anticipates issuing substantially all the refunds by early August for returns filed by April 18, 2022. Due to the volume of refunds, it may take some time for all refunds to be processed, and your H.B. 1302 refund will not be issued until your 2021 tax return has been processed, which may delay your H.B. 1302 refund."

Again Thanks for your responses.       the Highwayman

2022 Georgia Tax Rebate for Joint Filers

@theHighwayman = this is an FAQ from the State's website:

How do I determine what I might receive from this refund?

Please refer to your 2020 income tax return.  If you filed a Form 500, the amount will be based on your tax liability listed on line 16.  If you filed using Form 500EZ, the amount will be based on your tax liability listed on line 4.  Tax liability is the amount of tax owed on the return before credit for any withholding, tax credits or other tax payments.  Remember, you will not receive more than the maximums listed above.

Thank you for your prompt reply however as I earlier this year filed my GA Tax Return I already know my GA Tax Liability which was based on my Pension.

I am trying to find an answer to the question "Does this Tax Liability qualify for the May 2022-announced Rebate"?
