Put in my 1099 DIV for state taxes. G/L schedule

After I put my 1099Div information in my PA state tax forms, it came up with one error on review. It says I need to fill out the G/L schedule. Not sure why it is asking, i thought it was automatic. If not what information do i put in and where?

It's not likely you need this form, however here is the details about Schedule G/L for Pennsylvania (PA).

  • The PA Schedule G-L (Resident Credit for Taxes Paid) is a Pennsylvania tax form used by PA residents, estates, or trusts to claim a credit for income taxes paid to another state. It prevents double taxation on income (such as wages or business income) that is taxed by both PA and another state.

All dividends would flow to the PA return and if you are not being taxed on the same income in another state you should be able to put a zero in the field if one comes up in an edit box. If you have only one state return all dividends would be taxed to PA.

Glad you brought this up. I live in PA and work in MD. My company took out PA taxes, which is good. But turbotax keeps looking for MD taxes to be done. I assume it because my company has a MD address, or did I put in something I should not have? When I do the states, PA and MD are listed. It won't let me delete MD since it is reciprocal.  But I assume it is why the GL schedule keeps coming up?

Yes.  That would be why the GL Schedule is coming up.

Be sure MD is not listed in box 15-17 at all, even if it is just showing $0 for the income.  If it is, then you can delete this line.  This would cause the program to generate a MD return. Since you did not have MD taxes withheld you should only have PA listed in box 15-17.

Also, in the personal info section, did you say that you worked in another state?  If you did and you said MD, this would cause TurboTax to generate a MD return.  To fix this, you would go back to the personal info section and select that you did not work in another state or earn money in another state.

Since you live in PA and they took PA taxes out, you would not need to file a MD return due to the PA/MD reciprocity agreement.  If the MD state program does not delete, you can select to NOT file it as you go through the end of the program.
