Previous year's bonus - paid out the following year, worked for same company but moved work location in middle of previous year
I have always been a NJ resident. In 2018 while working for the same company I started the year in working from a NY location, but then in the middle of the year I was moved to a NJ location. I ended 2018 in NJ as well as all of 2019. In 2019, while working the entire year in NJ, I received the 2018 bonus in Feb 2019. The company withheld NY and NJ taxes. Since I was paid in 2019 and worked the entire year in NJ in 2019 is there a tax reliance to NY? Regardless I know I need to file the two state taxes, but do I owe NY taxes for the bonus paid in 2019?

It depends.
If the total of your nonresident income earned exceeds your New York standard deduction, you may have taxable income subject to New York taxes.
New York standard deduction amounts
If your income is higher than these amounts, you will need to file a nonresident New York return. You should also file if you want to claim a refund for the taxes withheld.

Thank you - follow up question. So in 2018 I worked 25% in NY and 75% in NJ. So should I be using 25% of the bonus received in 2019 as the total of the non resident income?
