Payroll taxes question: Living in NYC but work for Maryland

I live in The Bronx, Ny, but I work for a company in Maryland. How should my payroll deductions look on my paystub? They originally had me paying MD state and NYC local taxes. They then changed it to NYC State and NYC local taxes being taken out and not Maryland. Is this correct? How should my paystub look?

Normally your employer withholds for the state where the work is performed, unless a reciprocity agreement is in place (and there is not one for New York and Maryland).  The location of the company is less important in most cases- so the work location for remote workers is their home.  Do you work in Maryland?

Hi! I don’t live or work in Maryland. I live in New York and work remotely for a company based in Maryland. I hope this helps. Thank you kindly!

You don't have a tax obligation to Maryland, since you don't live or work there. You should only have taxes withheld in New York. You can file a non-resident return in Maryland to get a refund of taxes paid there.
