Part state resident last year. Old state, GA, no interest income. We lived in TN 7 mo last year and earned $171 in interest. It's incorrectly allocated to GA. Help plz?

I'm trying to complete our State section but because this data is pulled from Federal input, I don't see how I can change it to income earned in TN.

Yes, the portion that is not taxed to GA is entered in the box for other states. It will subtract it from your GA income.

When you move from one state to another you need to file Part-year returns for each state and allocate your income between the two state. In your case you only need to file GA return since TN has no income tax.

Interest income is taxable in the state you lived in when you received it. You earned the interest income while living in TN which has no income tax, your interest income is only taxable on your federal and  you should enter 0 on GA return for amount earned in GA.

How do I allocate (split) income for a part-year state return?

Thank you for responding.  I appreciate the help! Yes, everything you stated I am aware of. My problem is that since it is pulling the info from my Federal section, it is already allocated as income earned in GA and I cannot move it to TN. Is there some place I missed when I added the 1099INT in my Federal interview that can associate this income only with TN? Thanks again!

You have to make sure that you have the Georgia Part Year return selected.  The entry should look like this: @MARYHUSS208

Hello again and thank you for trying to help me. The screenshot you posted is exactly how it looks for me but that itself is the issue. The $171 of interest I earned is indeed already listed under GA. If I enter the same amount in the Other State box, will that move it to TN and zero out it from under GA? It's confusing because it's in an uneditable field so it doesn't look like I can move it out from GA. ?? Sorry I'm still stuck and I appreciate any additional guidance.  Thank you.

That was the one detail others left out. The dialog box would benefit from a notation describing you are transferring from one column to another state.  I thought it would have added additional other income to the other states. Thank you for responding. So appreciated...
