Paper Filing

I have to paper file my Federal return because it doesn't recognize my AGI which means I must also paper file my State returns. New York requires e-filing. It doesn't appear that you can e-file the state if you didn't e-file your Federal. Should I paper file New York and hope for the best? Any suggestions?
