Paid SC real estate taxes

I am a NY state resident but own property in SC. Should I include the SC real estate taxes as an itemized deduction on my NY state return?

No, the New York credit is only for tax paid on the same income that is taxable by New York which would not include property tax.

Thank you for that answer. So I need to manually enter the NY property tax on NY Form IT-196 is that correct?

Actually, you need to enter that amount in the federal interview section.

The state returns will pick it up based upon your input in the federal section.  You do not need to enter it on the state input.

  1. Go to the Federal interview section.
  2. Select Deductions & Credits
  3. Go to All tax breaks, select "Your Home"
  4. Select "Property (Real Estate) Taxes
  5. You can enter your additional property taxes for Additional homes or land in this section.
