I'm a nonresident of California, and I paid taxes to New York State. I was wondering if I can file the New York tax in the other state tax credit section for California state tax return. It currently does not give me that option. Am I able to do that?

A nonresident of CA will only pay CA tax on CA income with no credit available unless resident of AZ, OR, VA or Guam. NY is not among those exceptions. However, if you live in NY, you can file for a credit on your NY return for the double taxed CA income.
