Ugh, how frustrating. I created my own/separate question earlier today thinking maybe I’d get a response that way, but no response yet. I may end up calling TurboTax to see if I can get some help that way. I’ll come back here to let you know. Like you said, we need to get it reported so it can yet fixed!
I looked back at my previous tax returns too, seeing that the zip code was populated correctly.
Just following up to let you know about a call I placed to TurboTax customer service just now. Apparently our zip code issue for the MI Homestead Tax Credit form is a known issue from multiple people. Info from my call is now attached to those "investigations". I was told I would hear back from IT via email in 24-48 hours, with "what I should do next and how they fixed it." I'll circle back once I hear from them. Fingers crossed!
Just FYI, I had inadvertently responded to you the other day using the wrong account (had accidentally logged in as a family member).... so it's just me that's been responding to you : )
Perhaps. Do you mean a manual review by the TurboTax Online software? Or something else?
If you mean a manual review by the TurboTax Online software, follow these steps to see whether an incorrect zip code has triggered the manual review.
I have this same type problem where on my MI Homestead Property Tax Credit form it's not showing my correct zip code. It's showing a dash and the 4 digit additional code. I was not prompted to change this (like the OP was), so how do I correct this? I'm not seeing anywhere to do this on the MI portion (I'm using TurboTax online). My correct full zip code is included in the main portion of TurboTax at the beginning. Please advise. Thank you!!
This was exactly what I was trying to report to TurboTax but there is no way to report it. I was told to report it here in the community. I checked my previous years tax returns and that field populated correctly with the five digit zip code. This year it populated the field with the hypen and the last four digits of the nine digit zip code. I think that is what triggered the review of my tax return. I don't know how to get this reported to Turbo Tax so they can fix it.

Thank you so much for letting me know! I really appreciate it! I'm relieved to know that TurboTax is aware of the issue. I look forward to hearing back from you once IT contacts you. Thanks again so much! 🙂
Well, I don’t have a resolution from TurboTax yet…. Apparently the person I spoke to Monday did not document my issue well…
The following is a copy/paste of what I just posted in this forum (in the question I posted back on Saturday… hoping I can get some more info about this actually being addressed and fixed). There were a couple TT “experts” who had responded with suggestions to try to fix my zip code issue, but they were things that I’d already tried.
I’ll let you know when this finally gets resolved.

Following up with an update and still hoping you could help. Is there any way you could look into or provide me with some info/guidance that the powers that be at TurboTax are aware of this PROGRAMMATICAL error that needs to be fixed?
My update…
When I called TurboTax customer service yesterday, apparently the person I spoke to on Monday didn’t document my issue well, and all that was documented was that I had a problem with my zip code for the MI Homestead Tax Credit, such that the person I spoke to yesterday thought my issue was that I didn’t know my correct zip code… OMG. And, at first she thought I was calling about getting a refund (on my TurboTax purchase). Nope.
So the person yesterday said she did a much better job documenting what the issue is and that I should give it a few more days to see if it gets fixed… because when she checked in with a colleague about my issue, apparently the colleague looked on this community forum and saw that this issue had been included on this forum; therefore, she said TurboTax knows to fix it. Well, it was MY POST! (and one other person posted the exact same issue (before I did), but her question was closed (as if it was fixed), but it wasn’t. And as of yet, I haven’t heard that someone at TurboTax would look into this programmatical issue so it can be fixed.
So…I’m currently left not having much confidence that the people at TurboTax who handle making programmatical changes actually knows I have this (programmatical) problem. Hoping this is where you come in and could look into this further and provide me with an update on what to expect. I’m absolutely fine waiting a few more days (or more if needed), as I understand programmatical changes may take some time, but I’ve yet to hear it’s actually being looked into. Many thanks in advance.
Side note, I was informed that I could print my MI tax return, use some whiteout to fix the zip code on the MI1040CR Michigan Homestead Tax Credit form, but I declined that option... I'd like to file my return electronically, as I have for years.
Thank you for the update. This doesn't instill much confidence in TurboTax anymore. I guess after nine years with TurboTax, I'll be using something different next year since it's been weeks and the issue hasn't been corrected.
There is an article in the Detroit Free Press today about all these problems with the State of Michigan Tax Returns: https://www.freep.com/story/money/personal-finance/susan-tompor/2026/02/26/michigan-tax-refund-delay...
Thanks so much for your reply! It looks like most of your message was removed. Fortunately, your full message came through in my email notification (that you had replied to me), so I could see your full message with your research and steps. Thank you so very much for sharing all that! I will absolutely be following those steps.
We've been a good duo in this effort : )
Hopefully this will get resolved soon, and I'll be able to circle back to you saying it's been fixed. But I'm absolutely with you about next year!
Thanks for sharing this article. And here so many of us just wanted to get our taxes filed relatively early and beat the rush... and here TurboTax is adding to the MI's already heavy load. Geesh.
Definitely a good duo! 😃
I e-filed my return a month ago and it got pulled for manual review which I'm quite sure was because of the programming error with the zip code.
We've been trying to get this corrected for the past month. Since TurboTax has failed to correct this issue, and customer service has been of no help, I'm going forward with filing complaints.
There are lots of complaints on the BBB website. People say they've been using TurboTax for years but are now losing confidence in them because of programming errors, etc.
