For the Form NYC-1127, you must first determine if you are first required to file. Generally, only New York City employees living outside of the 5 boroughs must file Form NYC-1127.
You do not need to file Form NYC-1127 if you are a city resident or are not a NYC Government employee. NYC employees are individuals employed in a New York City Government agencies such as NYPD, FDNY, Department of Finance, Department of Sanitation.
If you are required to file, please follow these steps to get to your NYC-1127:
- Open your return.
- Click on State on the left hand side.
- Click Edit next to your NYS return.
- Confirm you a resident of NYS with no NYC residency.
- Continue through the interview until the screen Take a look at New York credits and taxes.
- Scroll down to the section named New York City and Metro Commuter Taxes.
- Click on Start next to NYC Nonresident Employees Tax (NYC-1127).
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
