I had planned to efile both federal and state returns. I expected a refund from federal, and I owed the state. I had filled out banking info to deduct what I owed from banking account and then elected to deduct state filling fees from my federal return. I decided against doing this after I noted the additional $40 fee, and I hit the back button all the way to the section where I could select to not efile state and just print and mail. When I went to submit, it says federal return filed, but I can't tell if state return filed as well. And on my copy of return, it doesn't show anything as far as what was elected for payment of fees. I tried to "refile" and select to not efile again for state return, and it just tells me that nothing was selected to efile and only option is to go back.

Sounds like you wisely avoided the extra $40 refund processing fee that would have been added in order to pay the $25 state e-file fee. But if you did not pay the $25 state e-file fee, your state return was not e-filed. If you did not enter a credit card or debit card and pay to e-file the state, it did not get filed. You can print and mail the state to avoid the $25 state e-file fee. And...if you owe state tax due, you need to pay the state by April 15, 2025. You can mail a check or money order with the mailed state return or pay on the state's tax site.
