Will I need to file taxes in DC and MD for this year?

I live and work in DC, but I'll be moving to MD on Dec 20 but continuing to work in DC. Will I need to file taxes in D.C. and MD for this year? What about the fact that I haven't paid taxes to MD? Even if I submit a new w4 on the 20th, it'll be in the middle of a pay period.

Normally, you will file part year resident returns in both states for 2017. However, see this re MD:

Income earned while a DC resident is taxable by DC, income earned while a MD resident is taxable by MD.  But since you state you won't move to MD until Dec 20, you may not hit the threshold for being required to file a MD return.
