So the question becomes, did you have "Illinois source income" as a nonresident? Was your worked connected with Illinois in any way?

My work was in no way related or connected to Illinois. I was visiting family off and on for a couple months here, and then couple months back in TX. Back and forth, totaling up to about 5-6 months in Illinois, purely for family/personal reasons.
Then, no, you do not have to file an IL return. Nonresidents are usually taxed on state sourced income.
