My medical expenses should be deductible on my Arizona return but I am unable to enter them on my federal return because I am not itemizing. Is there a way around this?

You should answer Yes to the question "if you have over 12K in expenses".

Then you will be able to enter the medical expenses and they will transfer to your Arizona return.

Yes. Enter your medical expenses in Federal even if you are not itemizing deductions. TurboTax will move those expenses to Arizona.

There is no screen in Arizona to enter state-only medical expenses.

To enter your medical expenses:

  • Type medical expenses in Search (magnifying glass) in the upper right
  • Tap Jump to medical expenses

Hi Ernie,

Thanks for the response.

I do not see the "jump to" for medical expenses, just a list of articles. I am using the online version.

If I go to medical expenses through the menu I am asked if I have over 12K in expenses and when I respond no, it kicks me back to the menu.

Thank you, that worked.

It did not change the amount on the AZ return, maybe I am not eligible to claim the expenses because I am a non-resident.

Yes, you are correct that you cannot claim the expenses as a non-resident.
