Pick one or the other. It is where the IRS will contact you if there is any problem.
Assuming you're filing a joint return, you show the mailing address that you want the IRS and/or state tax departments to contact you at.
You will have to file both a MI and a NC tax return. You may have to report all your income on the state returns, but you will only pay NC tax on your spouse's income and MI tax on your income. TurboTax can handle these complex calculations. You essentially allocate your incomes as MI or NC sourced.
"The filing status claimed on the federal return must also be claimed on the North Carolina income tax return. ...... However, for a married couple filing a joint federal income tax return, if either the taxpayer or the taxpayer’s spouse is a nonresident and has no North Carolina taxable income for the taxable year, the filing status married filing separately may be claimed on the North Carolina income tax return. Importantly, once a joint return is filed, separate returns may not be filed for that year after the due date of the return". Michigan requires you to use the same filing status that you used on the federal return.
Did you and your husband live and work in separate states all year? Are either of you in the military?
My original reply also assumes "my husband permanent address is NC and mine is Michigan" means he is a full year NC resident and you are a full year MI resident.
Depending on the details of your living situation, one of your homes could be considered a 2nd home and you are really both residents of the same state. In that case, you would file as a non resident for the "2nd home" state and pay tax only on the 2nd state income. Your home state would tax all both (all) your incomes, but give you a credit, or partial credit, for the tax paid to the other state.
I see you are using TurboTax Deluxe Online. If you file a joint federal return and separate state returns for Michigan and North Carolina, you will have to prepare your returns on TurboTax CD/Download, the so-called "desktop" version.
