My husband and I live in separate states. Can we file jointly for Federal and separate for state? If so, how do we do that? TurboTax online doesn't allow for it.

It depends on the states. Some states require you to file using the same status you use for your federal tax return, while other allow you to file separately even if your file your federal jointly.
