My husband and I get fellowship from our Universities (both phD students). We live different states (PA, VA) Can we use the turbotax when we file joint tax document?

Yes, to file both federal (1040) and state (PA 40 and VA 760).  You can set up as many states as you want in Turbo Tax. 

 Click on the State Taxes tab along the top in either the Desktop or Online version and choose both states.
