I do not have Iowa AMT, however, the IA Form 6251 is being created to be filed with my Iowa return. I am filing "married, filing separately", and the amounts in IA Form 6251 are not adjusted between my spouse and I and it is incorrect. Also, there is only one IA Form 6251 being created. Do I need one for both my spouse and I? How do I either 1) adjust the IA Form 6251 to report the correct allocation of amounts between my spouse and I and have both 2 forms filed for my spouse and I, or 2) suppress the Form 6251 from being created (and I tried to remove the form already and it wouldn't delete)?

It depends. I recommend revisiting the input to verify that all the elements affecting the 6251 are adequately split between Taxpayer and Spouse in the program.

I use the desktop Turbotax to file my IA tax, status marry filing separately. It appears that the app files form 6251 for my spouse. I don't think we need to file that form. I check your forum, and someone had the same issue like me.
Is this an existing issue?
Please help me figure this out.
Thank you very much!
Form 6251 Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), is used to determine the amount of alternative minimum tax (AMT) that a taxpayer may owe.
You need to attach Form 6251 to your return if any of the following statements are true.
1. Form 6251, line 7, is greater than line 10.
2. You claim any general business credit, and either line 6 (in Part I) of Form 3800 or line 25 of Form 3800 is more than zero.
3. You claim the qualified electric vehicle credit (Form 8834), the personal use part of the alternative fuel vehicle refueling property credit (Form 8911), or the credit for prior year minimum tax (Form 8801).
4. The total of Form 6251, lines 2c through 3, is negative and line 7 would be greater than line 10 if you didn’t take into account lines 2c through 3.
If that doesn't apply to you, delete the form: How do I delete a tax form in the TurboTax CD/Download software?
Thanks for your reply.
But I cannot find the definition of "general business credit" you mentioned above. Can you give more details about that?
General Business Credits include:
These credits will be reflected on page 3 of Form 3800, General Business Credit.
