The nonresident percentage of Virginia-source income is determined by dividing Virginia-source income ($2500) by federal income.  The ratio is applied to Virginia taxable income computed as a resident.  See below for VA filing requirements (2018) based on Filing Status.  So, it is very possible that your VA tax is $0.

  • Single, HOH, QW    $ 11,950
  • MFJ                             $ 23,900
  • MFS                            $ 11,950
