In 2016 I lived in two states, however, I only had income in one state, income in Kentucky but no income in Alabama. Do I still have to file Alabama state taxes?

No, not if you had no income from any source while you lived in Alabama. You will file as a Part-Year resident of Kentucky.
How do I file if I moved to a different state last year? https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302342
