I am a student and a resident of Illinois. I will be claimed on my parents tax return as a dependent.
I did an 5 month internship and received a W-2 with earned income. The internship was in a state with no state taxes so they did not take any taxes out of my internship pay. I received a W-2 and will file to get money back from the federal since I made less than 9,000. Do I have to file in Illinois? Is there an amount to make where taxes don't apply or will I have to pay Illinois taxes? Thanks

According to the Illinois Department of Revenue link: Illinois Filing Requirements,
You should file an Illinois tax return if you were an Illinois resident who was claimed as a dependent on your parents’ or another person’s return, you must file Form IL-1040 if
NOTE: If your parent reported your interest and dividend income through federal Form 8814, Parent’s Election to Report Child’s Interest and Dividends, do not count that income in determining if you must file your own Form IL-1040.
Your taxable income will be taxed at 4.95%.
