If you don't work a full year, do you owe the IRS the full year if income tax?
For example if I only wok since July of last year, do I have to pay income tax for the mouths I did not work?

You pay income tax based on your taxable income for the entire year. If you didn't work until July then your taxable income for the year 2016 is whatever you earned from July to December .

So time doesn't matter. Just total $ for the year. If you only worked half the year you will have less income to enter than if you worked the full year.

Any unemployment comp that you received is taxable.
