It depends, if the State that you are filing for does not have State Income Tax, then you would keep this section blank.

But if your W-2 has an amount in State Wages and/or State Income Tax, this means you worked in a State that has a State income tax and you need to enter that info into TurboTax. See the screenshot below to see where to look on your W-2:

If you confirmed there are amounts here, you will need to enter the Employer's State ID number.

To get back to enter your W-2 info, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in and continue your return
  2. Select the magnifying glass, search for W-2 and select the Jump to link
  3. Select Work on my W-2 and Continue
    • If you've already entered a W-2 or need to add another one, select Add another W-2
  4. Enter your Employer Identification Number (EIN) from Box b on your W-2
    • If your W-2 can be imported, you'll come to the Great news! We can automatically import your W-2 info screen. Answer the questions to complete your import.
    • If TurboTax doesn't recognize your EIN you can use the TurboTax mobile app to snap a photo of your W-2, upload it from your computer, or fill it in yourself.
