If I have a w-2 earned in one state and later moved to another state how do I insure I do not pay state taxes in both states?

You would split the W-2 earned income based on the months you lived in each state. If necessary, TurboTax also generates a "credit paid to other state" form so you get credit for the state taxes paid to each state.
