If I didn’t purchase anything major in 2018, does the sales tax section apply to me? I entered in the state I live in and the tax rate and it said I would get back a lot?

Sales tax can apply to anyone except a person who lives in a state with no sales tax.  It's calculated from an IRS table.  They use the filing status, income, and state tax rate  for every state.  Then you can change the tax rate to add in the local tax rate and the tax paid on any large purchases you made.  If your sales tax looks too high, it's most likely because you entered the state tax rate incorrectly.  Go back and check that you entered a rate like 6.25% and not 62.5%.

If you are done with sales tax, then you've returned to a table showing your state and the sales tax rate and you can edit that if you need to make a correction.

Sales tax is one of many itemized deductions, and your itemized deductions in total have to exceed your standard deduction in order to use any of them.

Okay that helps. I read that you can enter receipts from groceries, gas, restaurants etc. but that if the amount I spent is more than my income, I could be audited. Well, I live with my fiancé, I had to quit my job (that I got my W2 from) so we could move for his job. Whenever we need groceries or anything he sends me money through a cash app. So most of the groceries are purchased under my bank account. Can I still claim those receipts or no?
Also, I entered the correct tax rate before and it was over $400 without putting any receipts or extra info in. I feel like that’s a bit much and that I’ll end up paying that back to the govt anyway.
