I wrote checks to charities in late 2016. They were cashed in 2017. I count these in 2017, correct?

If you mailed out or gave the checks to the charities in December 2016, then you can deduct them as donations in 2016 even if the checks were cashed in early 2017.

If the checks were mailed out or given in 2017, then they are 2017 donations.
