I work remotely in NYC, but live in Oregon. I’ve been paying NY taxes, but what’s the correct process?

I freelanced in 2021 on a W-2. Self employed, living in Oregon, paying NY taxes. Do I pay Oregon income tax, too?

Please clarify WHERE you actually worked- in New York or Oregon.

If you got a W2 you were not self-employed unless you were a statutory employee.  See What is statutory employee? - TurboTax Support and Am I an employee or an independent contractor?

If you were an employee, you will first have to determine your tax domicile to determine how to file and pay the taxes (see What is my state residency status? - TurboTax Support)

Then you would have to determine which state to file.  See Am I an employee or an independent contractor? -

Q: "Do I pay Oregon income tax, too?"

A:  Yes.  As an Oregon resident, ALL your income is taxable by Oregon, regardless of its source.  You may claim a credit on your OR return for taxes paid to another state, so you won't be double-taxed.
