I work in MO & pay StLouis City tax but live in IL. Why does TurboTax not give credit on my IL return for the StLouis tax withheld that I entered on the W-2 worksheet?

I'm not specifically familiar with the IL software. But, for the states I am familiar with, TurboTax(TT) does not pick that up from the W-2. You have to enter it manually at the part of the state program for Credit for "taxes on income in other states"

you don't get credit for tax withheld either MO or ST Lo .  you first have to complete the nonresident state and city returns to determine your tax liability (b/4 withholding) and then complete Illinois schedule CR.    your credit will not exceed the lesser of the combined MO and ST LO tax liability or the Illinois taxes computed on the same income

Yes to clarify I do file a MO  non-resident and an IL-CR.   The MO  tax flows to the IL-CR But the St. Louis city tax inputted  from the W-2 does not. My Illinois tax does not exceed the combination of the MO tax plus St. Louis city tax.   I was just surprised that this was not an automatic flow through
