If your employer is based in NJ, your wages are considered NJ-source income and you have to file a NJ nonresident return.
While it is true that you need to file a New Jersey tax return even if not present in the state if you have income from "New Jersey Sources", that does not normally include wage income. Did you receive a W-2 form and does it reference New Jersey wages in box 16?
