I will start a job in New York, but my family will stay and work in TX. If I get an apt. in NY, do I need to pay NY state income tax?

I live in Texas. I have been offered a job near Rochester NY. I have to work there. We don't want to move, so my wife will stay in TX and keep working here. If I get an apartment in NY and work there, do I pay NY state income tax? If yes, on just the income I earn with the NY company, or my wife's income as well?

Yes. You will file a NY return for your NY income only.  You may also have a city tax with New York City or Yonkers.
