If you said you were exempt, and had no tax withheld from your pay, then it is possible that you could owe something at tax time even if you thought you would not owe. It depends on how much you earned. You should not say that you are exempt. Prepare a tax return and enter the amounts from your W-2 to see how it comes out. If you had no tax withheld you are not going to get an income tax refund. You will need to make sure you say in My Info that someone else can claim you as a dependent.
Q. I was wondering if i field exempt from taxes but somebody claims me on there taxes what happens?
A. Nothing. It makes no difference if your income is mostly wages.
With the tax law change, effective 2018, most dependents will get the same refund whether they claim themselves or not. The personal exemption has been eliminated and the standard deduction increased.
